I have no idea what's gonna happen. What do you think?

UPDATE: As of this afternoon, the McCain/Obama debate IS still on, so no need to vote on the "will he/won't he?" question. But feel free to fill out the rest. I'm really interested in these results!

I was glad to see Gordon Brown seems to be having a better week. I don't think David Cameron is a bad man, but I'd be happier if there was at least ONE somewhat progressive superpower I can count on, in case I have to move suddenly!

Honestly, I have no idea whether McCain will show up tonight, and that's what makes this exciting. If he shows up, I think that it will look both good and bad for him, and the extreme opinions will ultimately cancel each other out, thus having no effect. However, if he shows up, he will ultimately win the debate regardless of his performance -- the fact that he showed up at all will guarantee him all the post-debate coverage, which is a win.

This is a big game of political chicken, and I'm not sure Obama can really win. I think Obama can come out looking better than McCain, but can he win the media coverage? That I'm not so sure of.

(Incidentally, if McCain doesn't show up, I'm not convinced the networks will let Obama have the 90 minutes. McCain would scream "liberal media bias" from here until Election Day.)

There is nothing I can add to this comment that is either relevant or true! I think you pretty much have it right, particularly the third paragraph.

A husband who would like to remain anonymous allows me to share his thoughts:

I'm not so sure... I think his performance absolutely will matter. And I think that how the media portrays this is also crucial. So far, my impression is that the media have not fallen for this political stunt -- they've basically called it the stunt that it is, and they even seem to be acknowledging that McCain has hurt the negotiations over the bailout plan more than he's helped. So long as that's the main narrative in the media, I think McCain is hurt by this ( ... )

I'd be watching, but I've got a thing tonight. Luckily, we live in the Land of YouTube and the like.
