So, what are your favorite Christmas/holiday songs? Here are some that grace my iPod round the clock these days:
  • Jose Feliciano, "Feliz Navidad"

  • Emerson Lake & Palmer, "I Believe in Father Christmas"

  • Anything from Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol (I just ordered the DVD yesterday! Whee!)

  • Chris Rea, "Driving Home for Christmas"

  • David Bowie & Bing ( Read more... )

The Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan's "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"!!!!

Definitely my favorite Christmas tune evar.

Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, "A Fairytale of New York" ("Happy Christmas, yer arse, I pray God it's our last…")

Hee! Another Preacher reference! ::snerk::

Funny story:
Two Christmases ago, when I was working at Forbidden Planet, the Big Scary Boss bought a sound system and laid down a rule: No music was to be played but soundtracks or Christmas music.

One day I was sitting at bag check and idly started humming along to the song that was playing.

"...you scumbag you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot..."

WHA???

Turns out that the CD of Christmas tunes that we had was the one where someone had heard that The Pogues had done a Christmas song, and "Hey, the kids like The Pogues, let's throw that one on there!" but never actually listened to the lyrics. I had myself a good chuckle over that one.

It made working retail during Christmas just that much more bearable.

"I Believe In Father Christmas" is one of my faves, but mine just says it's Greg Lake. Huh. I'm also very fond of "Father Christmas" by The Kinks.

And of course Bruce Springsteen's version of "Merry Christmas, Baby"

Have you ever heard RuPaul's "Santa Baby?" Campier than Eartha and ten times better than Madonna.

Is that hard? I don't think so! Jeezus, Minnie Mouse called; she wants her Christmas remake back...

Hubby's had the tree up since day after Thanksgiving and pouted in the car on the way home from T'giving dinner till I put the Xmas music on. I'm just going with the flow.

Yes, one of the Jews is reporting on her favorite Christmas songs. I hate the frequency with which they’re played, and how early, but I’m a singer, so there are certain songs I just love because I can appreciate the musicality… and they’re great to sing.
Off the top of my head, a shortlist.
Tran-Siberian Orchestra, of course. Just rockin’ good fun.

The Nutcracker Suite.

Done well, I adore a classic choral rendition of The Bells.

First Noel, also needs to be a classic choral rendition.

Handel’s Messiah is absolutely beautiful music to sing and to listen to, and tends to only come out this time of year.

And Dominick the Donkey (The Italian Christmas Donkey) and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.
Just because. :D
