I had had this idea in my head for a long time. I don't know why Edrington sees things differently than other people, but I figured if he grew into the ability it could explain his extreme poise.
Apparently many kids have synesthesia and outgrow it. it is not considered a problem really.
I feel a little shy about this fic. It is a departure for me. We are a long way from the cool perfect Earl in his 20's. But I can see the path.
As far as licking the andirons, I once wrote a kid-fic about Archie where he liked to lick his front door. I know where I got the idea-- I was volunteering at daughters school once, with a class of six year olds. I was helping everyone get coats on, and ready to go out, and noticed one little boy in the back of the room carefully licking all the dust off a TV set!
Also, obviously Percy was a name used back then, but I also know a Percy my own age.
I love how Percy thinks he has gotten big now that he is four (almost five). My five year old likes to refer to things that happened "a bery long time ago." This might be a month or a week or three years. My three year old hastens to add that he is still my " 'mall baby doggy." He wants to be 'mall, not big, because big would mean he doesn't get to nurse at bedtime any more. I was hoping we'd stop at two, then I was hoping we'd stop at three. He insists he is still 'mall.

I wonder if he's been breeched yet, or if he's still in a frock? Either way, I'm sure he looks like an angel with the golden curls.
