Altering Brand to Make it Fit

Dec 04, 2011 21:50

I was wondering how many girls here did alterations on brand, and how they turned out ^^ At a 40'' bust and 38'' waist, i'm much to big for regular sized brand. So i was wondering if you girls alter brand, and by how much? How do you go about it? I'd really love to own some of Angelic Pretty's non-print stuff someday, but i'd love to be able to ( Read more... )

I've done it recently with a Putumayo skirt. You can find a post about it here

You shouldn't really be afraid to modify brand, afterall it's still just fabric! and if you make it fit better, it will look better =D

I have altered brand twice. My AATP Rapunzel jsk was too short on the bodice and didn't sit right on me. I thought it was too small but then I had the brainwave of extending the shoulder straps using the fabric from the waist ties. I just took it apart at the seams and sewed on the extra fabric, and now it fits me perfectly. I also took the elastic out of the top bit of shirring because it was thick and unforgiving. I found that helped me a lot in making it fit well, and it's not very noticeable at all ( ... )

I'm about to go hunting at the fabric store this week to see if I can find a similar enough flocked rose patterned black fabric to redo my shoulder straps on my MAM jsk. Even though it is 'lovely size', my boobs eat up the bodice so I'm always tugging on the straps to make it longer. Finally one ripped so I figure I might as well alter it because that's only going to repeat itself. Unfortunately, there are no waist ties nor anything else in the way of extra fabric. Just adding a panel to the straps would look o_O, so I'm going to try to find a dupe. If not, plain black will suffice. Luck to us both~!

May I ask which Mam JSK it is, and your bust size. Or you can just answer yes or no, if my 44 inch bust would fit? ;) Thanks so much.

The Old Rose Lovely Shirring JSK. My bust is 40, but you most likely could get it to fit. Might max out a line of shirring though but if sewing is your thing, you can take out the most offending line of it. Or so I've heard. xD

It's a pretty jsk, but I really don't feel it was worth the about $200 from Tokyo Rebel. TR didn't overprice it or anything, it's just that the fabric is THIN, there were a few odd skipped threads, and in general it didn't give me the burando feel that I get from my one Meta OP. Also it's really freakin' short on me, so I have to wear it with an underskirt.
