I do apologise for this horribly n00bish hope but I am rather desperate.

I have just acquired one of the Gothic & Lolita sewing books.

It has great instruction manuals such as this.

But being very new to this and all, I have no idea how to interperet it! Okay, so one can pretty much figure out the basic construction by looking at the pictures, but ( Read more... )

You need to refer to the front of the patterns section - there is a chart where you figure out if you are a size s m l etc. I'm pretty sure that in the memories section at egl there is a post that translates the pattern sections to figure out your size.

this page a a whole lovely PDF that explains how to use Gosurori patterns. Even a sewing newbie with no Japanese like me managed to make a dress.

in the front section there's a list of sizes (in cms) by waist, bust, hip etc. However in most cases even the LL size is pretty small (I believe the bust is 96 cm and waist is somewhere around 85 or so) so you'll need to make it wider and possibly longer depending on your height. If you have the 2nd vol of the English Gothic Lolita Bible it does go through some of this (lengthening only and size measurements in english) Otherwise just drop me a line and I'll translate a few of the size measurements out of my Gosu & Loli mags. Widening is a little more complicated than lengthening though just FYI. I had someone who teaches pattern drafting explain the basics to me so I'll be trying this out.
