New music video follows a Mexican lolita

As a big fan of French house music, I am a big fan of Breakbot, a French group who (sorta) recently released an interesting music video following a trouble-making Mexican lolita in Tijuana, Mexico. She spits, she fights, she shoots bullets into the ocean, and yet she is also a bonafide lolita, and not just a poor representation of the general ( Read more... )

I thought it was fairly entertaining to watch, and I really like that wannabe-80's kind of music, so I didn't really pay it much deeper thought.

I've spoken with some friends and they thought that something like this may lead other people to create even more misconceptions about Lolita's. Being a Mexican Lolita myself, I do not want people to assume I fight strangers and hang out with shady people. Maybe they wanted to represent that "Lolita's aren't princesses all the time" but went a little overboard, since the truth isn't particularly music-video worthy.

But since Breakbot isn't really a popular group, I don't think it will have much effect, and just enjoy the video since it's quite fun when paired with the catchy song.

It has "mocking tone" all over the places. I know it's supposed to show how badass a lolita can be, unfortunately it goes the wrong way.

I don't really think this video is even attempting to "represent" lolita. I interpreted it as a story about this girl who happens to like lolita fashion rather than an intentional statement about lolita fashion itself. The fact that it shows a normal lolita meetup and our protagonist is the only lolita that goes out and makes trouble after supports that I think. It was a really cool video and I don't really think it hurts the reputation of lolita.

Thank you for sharing this! It sort of reminded me of Kamikaze Girls. Feel like I've been let into a new branch of Youtube videos I wouldn't have found otherwise. Thanks!

I think that if people outside the fashion want to look for excuses to say untruths about Lolita, there is plenty of "better" ammo for them to use. That doesn't necessarily exclude this from the potential to be used, but no matter what, if they want to find something negative, they will.

Personally, I like the video, but I totally do not approve of getting in the bed of a pickup truck in a dress.
