Con-crit Wanted for New Outfit

Dec 23, 2015 19:19

So, I just finished making a pettiskirt and a dress (pettiskirt not going to be shown in the pictures -- just want opinion on the entire outfit -- plus or minus a few things) and I decided to take a picture of an outfit and get some feedback on whether I'm doing this right or not...
Look under here! <3 )

Hello there!
First of all, I really like the combination of ivory and stark white.

However, I think the dress shape is better suited for casual wear than Lolita (I'm guessing you were going for Lolita) , because the skirt shape looks like it's too small to handle the pettiskirt. I would suggest using ruffling instead of pleating on the skirt if you want volume, and adding some lining to help cover the sheerness of the fabric.

Lolita dressmaking is pretty hard (in my opinion), so my advice would be to look at patterns from Otome no Sewing (which are specifically for Lolita) to get a better feeling of how to do Lolita skirts so you can get used to it! Again, the dress you made would be very cute as a classy-casual outfit.

Good luck darling!

Its pretty, but isn't looking lolita yet. Its hard to tell, but the skirt doesnt look quite full enough. I like the design of it though. If you dont have any more of the fabric, maybe you could get some white and make a ruffled bustle in the back to give more room? The top looks fine but could use some lace or a bow to make it a littke more interesting ( ... )

As others have said, the skirt needs more ruffling/pleating, a common guideline is 3 times your waist measurement for the hem. The bodice seems kind of ill fitting (but that might just be the dressform it's on) and not detailed enough for lolita. Also, if you're going to use ivory/cream and white together, make sure the colors are balanced well! If you don't use enough white and too much cream, it might end up looking like you accidentally used the wrong fabric for the bodice.
Overall I think for a first try it's not bad at all, but it misses the mark just slightly. I'll look forward to seeing your progress on the next project!

Needs more poof in the skirt to be lolita - at least 2.5 to 3x hip is usually better than 3 x waist (that's kinda an old recommendation, and will probably give you a level of poof similar to the photo) with a minimum of 200cm hem circumference, preferably 250cm-300cm.

Otherwise, the other elements of your outfit aren't really lolita at all...It's a cute regular outfit though.
