Wardrobe Planning

Hello!

So I have a question... how do YOU plan out your wardrobe?
Do you have an excel spreadsheet with separate tabs for each brand?
Do you just buy whenever you find something you like?
Or do you draw your plan out on the back of a pop quiz? (⌒_⌒;)

I have a page on my Tumblr with all my dream pieces, and that's ordered by importance. But other than that, I just kinda buy whenever I feel something would go well with 2+ pieces that I already have. My wardrobe is mainly centered around one color (navy), so it's easy for me to pick up clothing! I have a few pieces that are pink/white/lavender, but I also have navy pieces with those colors. In terms of my physical wardrobe, though, I don't have the room to be fancy with it (seeing as I'm at uni and I share my room with two other girls). I just got a bunch of blouses and shoes from Taobao, so my next plan is to find jewelry (or make some~)

I keep my formal wishlist on my livejournal, but aside from that I keep a google doc of things I need that are more general (white princess sleeve blouse, etc). I also just sort of buy things on a whim occasionally. I find I don't really use the google doc method much anymore because I have the basics all covered and am only looking for specifc stuff now. I used to use the lolibrary closet/wishlist functions but it irritated me so much that the display image wasn't always the right colorway so that ended that.

I personally just save the photos on my computer and name them by brand name + print/piece name. I don't really use it though, I mainly just buy things when I like them and see them at a nice price. However when I do plan coords for specific events (like ILD), I will use Polyvore to get a better feel of what I have in mind.

If you mean by planning wardrobe as what to purchase, then I usually just try to go with the main colors (black and maroon/burgundy/dark reds (with occasional royal blue/navy) and style (gothic/classic) I have and make sure I have stuff to make each piece work with what I already have. I also have a list of "items I definitely need to get/make" right beside my pc and I check occassionally how well I stick to the plan.
I didn't even know about the "my closet" and wishlist options on Lolibrary! I will have to look into that, though, I could use some program to mix and match my wardrobe items. Since I have mostly offbrand/thrift/handmade stuff it's probably impossible, but it would be nicer.

In terms of wishlists, I used to have a Powerpoint presentation divided by jewelry, hair accessories, blouses/cutsews, dresses, etc. But I've kind of let that go and gone ahead and uploaded several albums on Facebook divided by the different item types. I'm on Facebook once a day so it kind of makes it easier for me to add and delete stuff if need be.

Some entries on Lolibrary do have opinions from people who own certain items (very forgiving shirring, itchy lace, slightly cheap feel, whatever), but I think you'd be better off asking opinions elsewhere. The closet and wishlist features can't be organized to your liking, but there are requests for it to be added so who knows?
