That is quite true, and I probably wouldn't divulge the information unless they ask anyway. Though, I still don't want to get the horrified "Why on earth would you put a REAAAL skull on your head!? That's disgusting!" face. It's not disgusting, imo. Bone is bone, and once it's clean it's not like it's even germy, honestly!!

I don't have a problem with using real animal parts (leather, fur, bones, etc.) as long as the animal died of natural causes or was treated humanely. I know a lot of people do, especially with animals that aren't specifically bred for it like cows are, so I'd be prepared to defend yourself if you do decide to make the items. As long as you're respectful, I personally don't see the problem. I think it'd be super goth, and no one has to know it's real unless you tell them.

(IDK if you're spiritual in anyway but I think it's always nice to sort of give thanks to the animal before you use anything from it. I'd also 'cleanse' it with sage or cedar to 'purify' it, but that's just me.)

Thanks for your input! I definitely want to use it in an OTT gothic coordinate, and then for maybe some more Victorian mourning attire outfits.

I probably will sage it, actually, I hadn't thought of that, thanks!

I think this is actually really cool. I'd say go for it, but make sure the bones are very clean, which I'm sure you have.

It is actually completely clean from being out in the elements, but I'm still going to scrub it down and probably peroxide it to be safe.

I think it's nice of you, actually. :) I personally like the idea of honoring the animal. Have you named him/her? Maybe you could name the fox and speak respectfully of it when its remains are brought up in conversation. :) I think you're honoring it by wanting to preserve its existence, and I wholeheartedly support you.

I haven't named him yet; I'm waiting for the right thing to hit me. I will probably be talking to him while he is upon my head, or at least refer to him by name, haha. :) I'm sure once I get his head articulated and his little teeth back in I'll have come up with something.

I haven't seen to many bones in lolita, however in the gothic community it's pretty common, so the cross over is bound to happen anyways! As a taxidermist, I have quite a collection of bone jewelery and consider it a beautiful and natural way to adorn outfits. If you feel more comfortable you don't have to tell people it's real, however I've never had anyone freak out on me over them, and the majority seem to think it's quite interesting when they've learned that you did it yourself. I'd love to see what you decide on creating when you are finished!

I look forward to posting when I have some stuff done.

Have you had any experience with etching the bones before? I was thinking I might do some decorative design work on some of the larger bones, but I would have no idea where to begin. It's not like carving into ivory, I assume, and I'm not sure how susceptible to breakage they would be if I began carving or etching.
