Is Emily Temple Cute Lolita?

What are your thoughts on ETC's cute dresses? While they very much remind me of more traditional lolita they also have designs that are less suited for the style but still adorable. How would you like to see more lolita coords made with ETC's dresses? What about less lolita coords but still cute, or very reminescent of lolita? Would this be a huge ( Read more... )

My opinion is that they're more of an otome/casual lolita brand. Some of the clothing is super cute, and I love seeing coords with them in it!

As for cute, lolita-esque brands, I adore labels like Jesus Diamante and Liz Lisa! (Hime gyaru is the thing that helped me find lolita, so I have a soft spot for the style. <3)

ETC is an otome brand as far as I know, though some of their designs can be incorporated in lolita fashion. On a similar note, Innocent World is primarily a lolita fashion brand but they have released quite a few pieces that are very otome-esque in the past, and some of their simpler lolita designs can also be easily coordinated in otome, so it really depends on the design of the item in question and how you wear it rather than the brand that made it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "a huge no no"; you can wear things that are girly and frilly and aren't considered lolita. The label matters most when you post a picture of your outfit online (and if someone points out that your outfit isn't lolita it really isn't a big deal), or if you're attending a lolita meet up where, understandably, the dress code is usually limited to lolita fashion and little else (though it also depends on the specific community, as some may be more lenient with dress codes than others).

Do you think people on EGL would want to see more of these sub fashions? I guess it's just too bad that some of these communities online have died and have nowhere to post. At least that's what it seems like...

I'm not entirely sure. I can't speak on behalf of the entirety of EGL (and you might want to ask a mod about it to be extra sure) but I guess that since otome isn't directly related to lolita fashion it doesn't have a place on EGL.
That said, I think that lolita coordinates using pieces from otome brands (like ETC) are perfectly acceptable to post.

It is too bad that so many LJ communities aren't as active these days, though. daily-ala-mode was wonderful and is still really interesting to look at but it sadly hasn't been active since 2012. :\

ETC mainly does Otome stuff, but they have a few Lolita designs. Just like AP that is mainly a Lolita brand, but that has some Fairy Kei/Casual designs as well. This way, they have a wider range of customers.

ETC, Milk and Jane Marple were there before lolita was defined as a style, so they don't adhere strictly to lolita aesthetic but a more bradly defined girly style. But a clever girl can of course incorporate their clothes to lolita coords!
