Sweet-Gothic Fusion?

Apr 27, 2015 17:31

Hey, it's me again. I made a post a while back about trying to find Lolita (Gothic) things for my rather tall, thin frame. I still haven't managed to get anything yet, being unemployed, but I have been looking into more things, notably the idea of a Gothic-Sweet Lolita fusion of styles ( Read more... )

If you're looking for Sweet x Gothic, the only thing you'll find is Creepy Cute Lolita, which definitely has, well, a Creepy Cute tone, and is, all in all, not very Gothic. There are more mature interpretations of Sweet with religious or more elegant/mature themes that might interest you though, where both styles will be compatible, but these pieces are fairly recent and some of these are heavily sought after. Here are a few links from Angelic Pretty ( ... )

Thanks for the links and the tips.

I don't plan on getting into the fusion right away. I'm just doing research so that when I do, I'll have a pretty good idea on how to do so.

Yeah, my tastes are very much on the Gothic side of things. I've been in the western Goth/Punk scene for years now and I honestly don't see myself moving too far out of those categories in the Lolita scene, either. There's just been a fair few prints that are considered Sweet that I adore (like AP's new Dolly Cat print) and I'd love to get them in black colorways and Goth-ify them up to fit with my own aesthetics if possible.

Of course, I don't own anything Lolita at all right now since I'm, uh, eternally broke.

I've seen many people fight for the term "bittersweet" to explain this rare combo. I am really into gothic style and sometimes a bit of sweet can give a coord that dark, childlike mischief I am occasionally drawn to. (Everyone's gonna cringe at me for this buuuut...) The character Stocking from Panty & Stocking with Garter Belt hits this middleground for me ( ... )

you should research Pastel goth its a fashion that combined pastels and black colors. Usually the goth elements would be skulls, crosses and maybe pentagrams. I also see pastel flower prints too. Then you can find ways to put it in a lolita coord. For example you can have a pastel lavender blouse with a black skirt that had pastel crosses. I want to try this style out too.

That sounds like Creepy-cute to me.

There are differences between the two. Its usually based on the motifs and prints. Pastel goth is black and pastels with crosses and spikes while creepy cute is more so with bright colors and eyeballs, zombies, and maybe tentacles motifs that make it creepy and cute.

This explains it better than what I am doing

A number of years ago, the term "bittersweet" was used to describe the colour coordinates that used black & pastels together...
