I want to make my own lolita dress or skirt, but I'm in a grim financial situation so I will be using what fabric I have already. Its probably not best to make an entire article out of satin no matter what the quality of the satin is. There are other options for finding fabric that is basically free like plain or simple printed flat bedsheets or cotton tablecloths and curtains for heavier material. It might take some time and may check backs to find something you might actually want to use but decent finds are out there ( ... )

I dont think satin would be good, because, especially if it doesnt have any print or anything, its going to look like you had leftover random satin laying around, and decided to make a skirt with it. Its better to wait for a bit and make something out of fabric you actually picked out for the specific project, rather than spend your time making it out of extra cosplay stuff just because you didnt want to wait until you had more money. If you really want to, then go for it, but, especially because the satin is blue, and not a dusty pink or plum or something, i wouldnt.

If it's a high quality, low lustre satin it can definitely work, but that kind of fabric is very heavy and will require a super petticoat. If it's a cheap costume satin, it's going to look ita.

Good luck with making an outfit! :)

Sometimes satin has nice matte wrong side, perhaps you can flip it over and use the non-shiny side?

Do not do it unless you're confident you can make it look expensive.
Cheap satin will look cheap solely because it is not meant to hold shape or last long.
