Steam loli, now in brighter colors! [warning: several large pictures]

May 07, 2014 15:58

I was checking TaoBao shops and I chanced upon some very BRIGHT! steam loli pieces by Classical Puppets. Whether this is awesome or itaaaaa is up to your personal opinion- but I thought that the color itself was novel enough to post. The last Steam thread was in 2012(?) I believe, and I didn't want to necro that.

Enter the realm of PURPLE! )

I love the sleeves on the overdress - what problems do you foresee?

Someone at CP clearly loves their purples. Maybe it's someone's kid after all, we may never know!
Frankly the overdress is my favorite from their release too; though I'm not sure how sturdy such a dress made entirely of organza (or chiffon?) will be, or if the print will flake off. It seems so delicate, but I do adore that POOOF shape XD CP has been turning out steampunk-inspired stuff for some time I think, like corsets and their bizarre victorian bustle petticoat (dunno how that's supposed to work). But there hasn't been much that stands out enough to warrant posting, till now.

That deep mauve is at beautiful & perfect for a late-victorian ensemble.

You mean the overdress? *_* I could see it going with a lot of things. What I worry about is how delicate the fabric appears to be- is it even possible to print on organza? I have a bag that flakes horribly and it would be frustrating if this overdress ended up that way.

The golden music notation on the organza? It would depend on the printing process, which I can only guess at. Metallic foil printing will invariably crack with time, the only thing to do is to treat it very gently, and wash in cold water only. Though, "cracked with time" is acceptable in the context of steampunkery, also...

Specifically : Mauveine
Discovered somewhat accidentally in 1856 by a teenaged lab assistant...

I have fallen deeply in love with that dark mauve over-dress. I would never have an occasion to wear it, but GOD I love it.

Isn't it great? So OTT- but so ~ FABULOUS ~ !!
If I remember correctly, you have sewing experience, am I right? o: What would be your opinion on a piece like this made entirely of organza? It seems so swishy and delicate, I worry it may need delicate handling, and I've never heard of prints being done on this material before.

I'm not a fan if the classical puppets print but the over dress is gorgeous. My favourite from your post is the f+f print, I would love to own that one.
I think if a steampunk print/design tries to hard it can end up looking tacky.

About the F+F print, it is apparently the top seller on their website right now. I love it dearly but it might sell out soon ; ; oh well...

I adore that overdress more than anything else in Classical Puppets' release, but as I mentioned in my replies to the comments above, it seems so delicate. I am kind of a klutz (cramped public transport does not help) and so I prefer fairly tough clothes, those that can take washing and everyday wear-and-tear.

I agree with you about steampunk designs. I feel like there's a thinner boundary between steampunk fashion and costume than there is with typical lolita styles. It is pretty hard to go overboard with Sweet for example (teddy bears on your head; uh huh totally normal~)

I like the purple, but that first CP JSK is so busy. The overdress would look nice over a solid-color dress.

Yeah, I think only the high-waisted skirt looks okay, the others are a bit of an eyesore. I love the skirt part of the overdress but I'm not sold on the sleeves.

I really hate the sleeves in the over dress also.
