New to Lolita!

Hello everyone!! I'm a newbie lolita (are there any cute terms for this?), and I've broken into the fashion by making my own JSKs, since affording brand will be something I dream of for a long time to come. I have recently ordered my first Krad Lanrete dress, however, and am excitedly waiting for it to arrive!!

I was wondering if I could get some ( Read more... )

Something about the cut of the bodice seems a little awkward. How are you tailoring it? Does it have princess seams?

The overall design is very pretty though.

It only has two princess seams, running along either side of the beige front panel. I'm still figuring out a lot of tailoring aspects, and so it's not quite as form fitting as I would have normally liked.

Thank you so much for your feedback!!

That dress is absolutely gorgeous, something I would definitely consider buying ( ... )

Thank you so much for all of your feedback!

Unfortunately, due to a slight sewing issue with the bows, the front pieces sit crooked due to needing to cover bits of the back of the bow that stick out. I may end up whipstitching them so that they can remain hidden so that the center pieces of the bow can sit properly.

Do you have any pictures of what you suggest for the back bow? I'm having a little difficulty understanding what you're suggesting.

Ooh, I never even thought about chiffon! I should look into getting some champagne colored chiffon, maybe to stick between the cotton ruffles...

It's technically the third! I made one late last year, but it's not the best (sloppy hemming, uneven waistband, etc). The second one I made was covered in stripes and ended up being not quite wide enough as I would've liked at the bottom and has some fitting issues through the armhole, so I kind of keep biting off a different aspect to work on with each new JSK :) I've also made three skirts!

I'd suggest switching the bow on the back out with actual waist ties :) or else, making it a little more full and soft looking instead of very "broad" the way it is now. Add some tails to it, too, and maybe some lace.

Hmm. So perhaps not as wide, but with taller, so that when it's cinched in the middle it'll curve more on the outside?

This is very gorgeous overall! I love the fabric choice. My favorite part is the design of the bodice!

As for critique, I also agree though that the bottom ruffle would be divine in chiffon. The entire bottom itself is very pretty, but seems a bit...out of control? I think a big poofy petti, and the chiffon to soften the look would do wonders though.

Thank you! The moment I saw this fabric, I KNEW I had to use it in this dress.

I'm definitely considering picking up some chiffon now!! And it definitely needs a stronger petticoat- the skirt is waaaay too heavy as it is with all of the cotton ruffles, so hopefully with a better petti and replacing the ruffle fabric will make it work better!

I see what you mean. I'll try looking around to see what I can find, pearl wise- those were what I had on hand, and they probably be switched out in the future! Thank you!

Agreed on the pearls. They stood right out as being "too white" compared to the ivory/creme and the knotting was just an eye sore.

I think it will look GREAT with better pearls and a chiffon bottom ruffle.

That makes sense! I'll make sure to go out and try and find a better chain of pearls.

This is gorgeous. Personally, aside from the bow looking slightly crooked, I think it looks great. I literally jaw dropped seeing this. Co-or wise, maybe a slightly frillier blouse (just slightly). And at some point in the future, try this outfit with white lace tights. Now that would be lovely.

Thank you so much! I do want to try making a blouse for it (three quarter sleeves with some nice lace and a high collar is what I have in mind). I'll definitely look into a pair of lace tights, too. This was my first real coord, and I was worried about it being too overwhelming, hence the simpler tights.
