My Strange Addiction: I'm a Living Doll

I found the full episode (without any ads or commercials) on Vimeo and I thought I should share it for those who weren't able to watch it.

media: lolita in the media, discussion: social issues, media: video, media: tv/movie/theater/radio, community: lolita in the media, discussion: reactions to lolita

ugh, this is unbearable. didn't make it through more than seven minutes. very obviously scripted.

I think Venus uploaded the whole episode on her youtube channel, too. At least I saw it there. It was very weird, I saw Justin on some other TV show already so I wasn't surprised that much.. Venus was also very predictable, "I'm naturally a doll", "I'm a youtube star", "We want to get famous and getting paid for being a doll". I thought it was hilarious when they talked to the photographer and explained their aim, did anyone else notice how Margaret stared at him? It was almost scary..
This Emily girl seemed a little too young tu understand the concept of work. Wear anything you want but keep it to your private time :/ I don't know, this episode was really strange. I read on tumblr somebody's family saw this show and were afraid the person would want to do surgeries...

I think somebody else mentioned this in a different thread...but the whole thing seems very staged. Somehow I doubt Emily would show up at random restaurants/shops to apply for work while wearing lolita clothing. Almost everyone who wears lolita is very conscious of its effect on the non-lolita public, and there have been numerous discussions on lolita forums (including this one) about the appropriateness of wearing lolita or lolita-inspired clothing at work. More than likely, the producers had her go into these places so they'd have an excuse to film people's stunned reactions.

I agree with you that many things were most likely staged, or let's say I really hope they are because this attitude isn't really helpful. It's just that I have encountered some girls who really think that way, they don't need jobs desperately and say things like "if they don't accept me like I am despite me being polite I don't need this job!". Of course this attitude matures most of the time, but a TV show on the internet doesn't really help getting a job either.

She didn't wear lolita in the episode at all...

I'm in the middle of watching this but OH MY GOD, is she really referring to Bodyline as a "Japanese Doll clothing line"? And Lolita clothes are "Lovely dolly dresses"

Although I like Venus's black cape that she wears near the end

She probably wasn't allowed to name actual brands without permission; which is why she did that with Bodyline I believe. And since the episode is about 'living dolls' they probably coached everyone to leave out 'lolita' and use 'dolly clothes' instead for the items that were actually lolita. Which really weren't many at all since the tea party looked like mostly Doll Delight's line, which is not lolita.

I think this is true...because at certain points when Emily says the phrase, "dolly fashion" or "dolly clothes," you can see her eyes shift to the camera or do something weird...as if she's taking a moment to remember the phrase she's supposed to use instead of lolita.

Yeah, that's true. Its slightly annoying now that some people might see Lolita and think that we're trying to be dolls

I know it's staged, but I had so much secondhand embarrassment during the Emily segments that it wasn't even funny.
