A-ha! I love it, I had this idea too, but never got round to it. I was thinking of removing the base so it wouldn't be as heavy, but then I would give up the music! Ack, decisions, decisions! It looks great!

Hollowing out the top part (or finding one that is hollow) will reduce the weight a lot too. I just didn't have the time/energy to try.

Most of the weight in my base is the actual base, not the mechanics, so carving away some of the filling inside the base could probably lighten it up a lot too? I thought about taking the base off of mine, but then the carousel starts down a lot lower, and the flowers would cover the horses (plus losing the music).

(and thank you!)

That's really cute and creative! But it definitely looks heavy, yeah. My head kind of hurts just at the thought of wearing it.

Thank you!

Honestly, I tend to get headaches at conventions in general with my heavy wigs and headbows, so TBH, it wasn't much different pain-wise, just more tiring.

I have always wanted to do something like this to match Sugary Carnival! I can imagine that it'd heavy/annoying.

I think, in the end, it's one of those things were you have to accept that there are going to be limits to what you can do and still have it be comfortable. Usually what I do when I'm doing a really crazy headpiece (or deco-loli) and plan on wearing lolita all day is I bring a comfortable-to-carry bag and I put a backup headpiece in it (like a simple headbow, or a smaller hair corsage), then when I start to get too tired, I can swap the head piece, or take off some of the accessories (I've banished twin tails to my bag before too XD). I know that if I'm taking photos or something, I like to be able to take off all my bracelets and rings from my deco coords because the extra weight makes my arms tired faster (also I sometimes get bruises if I clap too much while wearing a lot of plastic jewelery). That way, I can wear my really OTT look for a few hours, and then something nice, but not as heavy the rest of the day. So maybe, I might wear the carousel headpiece for 4 hours and a headbow for the other 6 a convention, for example.

That makes perfect sense. For me, I can be stubborn about wearing the "complete" outfit for x number of hours, if not the entire time. I have these beautiful shoes to match SC but they're painful after walking around a convention center all day. I learned my lesson this year because I wore those shoes for 8-9 hours straight friday at Nekocon and the pain in my legs kept me up till 4 in the morning when I had a lolita panel to be at that morning!

But I love having a big handbag to carry extra stuff like that around in. Never thought to put my twin tails in though haha! Instead I just let one of my guy friends clip it to his head.

That's amazing! Even if it is heavy and sliding around, it definitely looks as though it was worth it.

I was at the Lolita 101 (or was it the 102?) panel at Otakon where you wore that coord, and I thought your music box headpiece was incredibly adorable! It was also a good way to show how creative a Lolita can get (and how much pain one might suffer with such a heavy headpiece!)

I think 102, because I wore a much more by-the-books fruits parlor coord for 101. xD I was on the fence about wearing something so OTT to the panel though!
