If you don't want to alter the dress I think you already thought of a good solution. You could also try to wear the dress as a halter top and tie the shoulder straps in your neck and pin a bow over the knot in the back, or use the bow to pin the straps together in your neck so there is no need for a knot

I have a friend who has made extenders for a few AP jumperskirts and they looked fine. Although it's a printed fabric that makes the straps, if you found a matching pink, I don't think it would stand out too much. You should probably reinforce the button that's there. A lot of the time, even if it's by a good brand, clothes with buttons will have the buttons sewn on really badly. I've lost the buttons to a couple jsk's from them popping off in that spot. (I don't think they should use buttons there, since that's a stress point. But I'm not a fashion designer, lol.)
Amen, brand button sewing is awful (you're lucky if they're even sewn on straight). I have no sizing issues but I almost always resew the buttons because I've had them fall off while I was out and I'm always afraid I'll lose a few along the way.
Since the dress has those cute ribbon bows down the front, personally, if it were my dress, I'd add an extender that is removable on either side from a matching fabric and then maybe make some little bows from similar colored ribbon and put them on the extenders in a little row mimicking the front (either sewn on, or as pin-on bows). That way it's not a major alteration of the original dress, and if the bows are done as pin-on, you could use them for other things (and the strap extenders could be used on other dresses the same color as well).
I like this idea a lot! Since my dress is black, I think I will maybe use a plain fabric and add the bows to it! I don't think I want to alter the dress itself, just in case I ever fall out of love with it, and I think the extender would look pretty with some embellishments! Thanks so much for this idea!
