Hello everybody!

Living myself in a very cold country (average of -15°C to 20°C and down to -35°C in January), I thought I'd collect a few tips on how to stay warm for the winter. Sure, some of them might not apply to everyone and every weather, these are however good ideas to try out if you're courageous enough to wear Lolita despite the cold! :) I ( Read more... )

In Poland coldest days of winter are about -20, -25 degrees. I know most of those tricks, I used them even before lolita :) Two more advices from me:
1. If you cannot find lolita coat thick enough, buy regular one, slightly bigger than your size and modificate it. I added thick fleece lining to mine (photos here http://frillybunny.blogspot.com/2012/09/coat-modification-lets-make-it-warmer.html)

2. Another way to fight the static electricity is clothes spray. I have spray for clothes that eliminates static and if it's very cold, I wear wool cap and my hair are dry i just spray small amount of this product. I don't like the smell, but it vanishes quickly. And it works :P

"Lolitas are like...onions."

"They stink? "

"Yes... No! "

"Oh, they make you cry? "

"No! "

" Oh, you leave 'em out in the sun, they get all brown, start sproutin' little white hairs... "

" NO! Layers. Lolitas have layers. Lolitas have layers. Lolitas have layers. You get it? We both have layers. "

Lol this always runs through my head, any time someone says layers, regardless of context.

In my country, we actually have the habit of saying that to stay warm, you gotta dress with onion layers. xD Especially for outdoor activities.

I've found that most of my lolita brand coats are warm enough for our winters (northern Sweden here, we get similar temps as you), but I always buy wool coats and I layer a wool cardigan underneath. Another tip is to get thermal underwear (preferably merino wool) and layer under your blouse and bloomers! Instant warmth and it won't show.
And I agree that layering up for going outdoors is never silly. I usually wear a cutsew/blouse+cardigan indoors, and then put on an extra cardigan under my coat before going out if it's -20 or colder. It's better to feel a bit bulky than to freeze!

Oh, I didn't think about thermal clothes! Thank you for sharing. :)

Great advice! I now have the opposite problem and live in Florida, but I used to live in Chicago and the winters were pretty harsh. One thing to add regarding coats, if you can't find a cheap/good/warm Lolita coat, add a faux fur cape or velvet/ wool cape wornon top of a nice warm regular coat. It can turn a non-loli coat into some thing which looks pretty, and add valuable warm layers. If it has a hood it can also help protect from cold winds. And removable fur collars can make a pretty alternative to a scarf, because of the design they sit up nice and close to the neck for a cozy fit.
Stay warm lovelies ^^

Depends on the coat though since here most people just have a skiing coat as winter coat. xD But I get what you mean and I shall add it later! :)
