Circle Lenses for Sensitive Eyes?

Feb 13, 2012 15:12

I have a lacrimal gland dysfunction, which is a fancy way to say my tear ducts are crappy and I have pretty dry, sensitive eyes. I generally wear glasses, but I recently got over my INSANE FEAR of *le gasp* touching my eyeballs and putting contacts in. I now have a prescription to wear Acuvue moist daily contacts in addition to my glasses ( Read more... )

I too would like to know. I've wasted so much money trying to find comfy circle lenses since my eyes are so dry and sensitive. I get them in and can only keep them in for about 30 seconds because my eyes are so dry. :(

Oh noes! Yeah, dry eyes stink. My doctor recommended taking fish oil and using a warm compress against my eyes for 5 minutes every day. I also use Systane Ultra drops every day. But y'know, they're still dry!

There are also supplements made specifically for eye health that contain fish oil, but I just take the fish oil right now because I bought a bottle. XD Might check the supplements out once the bottle is empty. I also know there's this procedure they can do where they put these...I dunno...plug type things in your eyes? But just reading about it made me squirm and want to puke. Don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon.

Circle lenses should be fine to wear, just make sure to choose ones that have a high water content and to use eyedrops! Rohtos lycee eyedrops are awesome. Don't wear them for more than 8 hours. Generally GEO are considered the best brand. EOS are also good. Hope it helps! ~

The weird thing is, I've read high water content contacts may actually not be the best for dry eyes!

"Another study, however, suggested that high water content lenses compromise the tear film more than low water content lenses and that they should not be recommended for dry eye patients with low Schirmer scores. Additional research has shown that low water content lenses remain hydrated longer than high water content lenses."

Whaaaaaat?

Oh, that's interesting, I've never heard of that! Well, I suppose the best way to find out is trying both low and high water content! ^^

Acuvue actually do circle lenses as well - they are called "Acuvue define" or something like that, and they are daily ones. They are supposed to be safer and more comfortable than other circle lenses... I haven't tried them myself though, but I have read good things about them...

My eyes are a bit dry. And circle lenses are ALOT more uncomfortable than regular lenses. None of the usual brands are ideal unfortunately, I hear people swear by G.E.O. but honestly they still feel like a cheap chunk of plastic in my eyes. I do wear them, but carefully (only about once a week, not for more than 8 hours, cleaning thoroughly etc ( ... )

Have you tried E.O.S lenses?

Thanks for the info!

Nope but I definitely suspect they're about the same quality as GEO ones.

But hey if you want to, you should try some 14-14.5 mm from any of those brands. Don't let me scare you off from even trying lol :p
I used to have these from G&G http://www.pinkyparadise.com/webshaper/store/viewProd.asp?pkProductItem=328 and they were not that bad.

You'll never know until you try right? You won't even WANT to wear them if they're too uncomfortable, believe me. Also, all this "circle lenses makes you go blind!!!!!!omfg" is just bullshit. It's not like you put in a lens and *POOF u r blind*! It's good to be careful but hey you gotta have fun too :p

I've got really dry eyes too, acuvue dailies are the only lenses I wear nowadays (and only a few times a month).

acuvue define is indeed really comfy, but it only comes in brown or black. actually I like them a lot, they do make my eyes look big but in a very natural way. Just wish they came in more fun colors.

I read the same thing about water content, all I can say is the higher water content lenses feel better than those with lower water content. It's still highly uncomfortable compared to acuvue though. The last pair I bought were iFairy with 55% water and I could only wear them a max of 8 hours, at 5 hours they start to really annoy me.
