Altering a brand print?

Aug 19, 2011 21:35

There are plenty of topics made by people who want to alter branded dresses but what about branded prints?

I've had this dress: http://hellolace.net/wardrobe/metamorphose-temps-de-fille/type/jsk/item/121/ for some time and I've always ( Read more... )

I have worked with fabric paint A LOT and I highly suggest using this method :)

Instead of buying a fabric paint, buy a sparkly acrylic paint and then buy fabric medium, which is a clear liquid right along with the acrylic paint. It will give you directions for mixing the two together and how much to use, then you just paint it on like normal. Although it stiffens the fabric a tiny bit, it it is completely washable and will not crack or fade :) I have tested this with sparkle paints with great results. And since you're using acrylic paint you can mix virtually any color you want!

Good luck :D

I second this :)
Alternatively if you wanted an all over sparkle without painting a colour over the print just mix some fine glitter in with the fabric medium :)

That's a good idea. I wouldn't want the glitter to crack!

Altering anything will decrease the resale value. I have no idea about damage or care, but I would definitely test out the glitter on a small out of the way area. If you do decide to glitter it I think that would actually look pretty awesome, so post pictures!

That's OK, because I messed up the buttonhole on the strap. I got it fixed but its value probably decreased because of that. Adding some things to it probably wouldn't decrease the value that badly compared to what already happened to it. (Boo, I am a clumsy owner.) x_x

Besides, this dress is special to me (First brand!), so I don't think I would really want to sell it anyways.

I might try to glitter a bodyline dress first to see how it would look though. Maybe this one: http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/photos/l371-2.jpg or: http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/photos/l345-2.jpg

I think they'd both look great with glitter! (Mr. Yan, if you're reading this, get some glitter in yo prints!)

Will do!

Also, your comments show up as screened and then I have to unscreen them. Do you happen to know why that is?

Instead of paint maybe you could consider using small hot fix crystals if they suit the look you are going for? Not brand, but I recently went to a concert and people had customized a feather design on their t-shirt with hot fix gems and it looked really nice imo! Just an idea :)

For some reason, it's a pain in the butt to find pictures of the print but there are both sparkles and jewels printed on the dress so I would put glitter on the sparkles and maybe real jewels over the printed ones. That sounds like a good idea, but I don't trust myself with a be-dazzler. XD

I'd probably start slow with just the glitter and if I really like it, I'll probably put some jewels on it. :D

I probably won't sell the dress unless something totally cataclysmic happens. (Like I need to sell it to pay for a ransom or something. XD)

I really love tsu's altered Marionette Girl dress. It looks really cool and it's inspired me to decorate my own clothes! *^* http://arabesquezine.posterous.com/photoshoot-log-ap-marionette-op-deco-version

I love that dress already, but the sparkles would make it seem like the stars on the dress are real! Such a good idea

I know, right? I don't know why more brands don't add sparkle to their prints. It would look awesome on so many dresses!
