Bringing exciting news of an upcoming meeting!
Since our dearest friend
comtesse-de-lis has moved away, I'm taking it upon myself to continue what she started by hosting an extravagant tea party this December, in celebration of International Lolita Day.
The party will take place at The Rose House in Flushing, Queens on December 5th. The decor in this decadent teahouse reflects the founder's love for the Victorian Era and English tea. The Flushing location is the only one in the United States at the moment, while there are locations throughout China, Korea, and the U.K. Some may say that this place is "pretentious"; but as Lolitas, that is exactly what we desire! The light scent of roses hits you the moment you walk through the entrance. They serve a vast selection of tea flavors such as rose petal, Moroccan mint, to peach teas. Many things they serve is made with roses. Rosewater to re-quench your thirst, rose jam to go with their scones, rose honey with their waffles. I won't get into further detail. Those allergic to roses be wary!
I do not have specific details or payment plans ready for you at the moment, but in 2-3 weeks time I will make another post with these details, after I finish speaking to the manager. This is what I have for you so far:
Location: The Rose House, located in Queens Crossing near Main Street in Flushing. (7 to the last stop)
Date: December 5th, 2009. Approximately 2pm, time is subject to change.
Pricing: The price per person will be approximately $50-55 dollars. Depending on certain plans falling through, it may be cheaper. I'll keep you up to date on this! I do not know ALL the options you have to select for the pricing, I know for sure that one of the options would be their tea set (two or three tiered, I will double-check), but they have recently started serving actual dinner plates, so I will check to see if that can also be made an option. Otherwise, this price also includes cake made by a popular local cake designer, that I will get into more detail once everything is confirmed.
Seating: At the moment I'm only planning to reserve for 30 seats. Though again, the information is subject to change, I will find out what's the maximum number of seats I can reserve without paying rental fees, just in case we happen to have more than 30 people interested.
Payment: Payment (when I start accepting), will be done via Paypal or money order. You will be able to either pay full price, or pay in deposits. I will get further into detail later :3
Dress code?
Lolitas/Boystyle/Aristocrats: Brand or offbrand/handmade, please wear nice outfits. Since this is a strictly formal occasion, things considered "casual lolita", "guro-lolita", "ero-lolita" are not allowed, for obvious reasons. No punk lolita unless it's nicely coordinated, which means no torn fishnets or spiked necklaces, things of that sort.
Non-Lolitas: Nicely put together outfits, may it be Steampunk, Neo-Victorian, Goth. Anything that fall under Himegyaru or "Agejo" style are also acceptable. For a casual outfit, I suggest nice dresses and or slacks/blouses. No cosplay, maid costumes, vinyl, neon, whiteface, ripped fishnets, dusty/beat up jackets, tennis shoes, miniskirts, flip flops, T-shirts, things of that nature.
If you are bringing a guest with you, they must follow the dress code as well. If you are confused or concerned you can contact me through PMs or on my personal journal and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. If you need help putting your outfit together, I will be more than glad to offer my assistance. I want everyone to have a great time, and I don't want to have to turn people away. And trust me, no one can convince me to make "exceptions". I'll punch you in the throat if you come to me with some excuse. xD
Extra things to know:
- White Elephant Gift Exchange:
Since this may or may not be the last big get-together until the new year, we are going to do a Christmas gift exchange. Everyone must bring a present, your guest included. All the presents must be already wrapped and a secret to everyone else. When we first come to the Rose House there will be a table to put your gift on. Near the end of the party we will go around one by one and pick a present out of the pile. If you like the present someone picked and it's your turn, you can steal their present and they have to get another one. You'll only be able to steal once.
As for the present itself, keep it no less than $8 dollars in value, and no more than $20 dollars. No one wants to see someone get a Tiffany bracelet while another girl gets a pack of Winterfresh gum. xD
-If plans go as expected, there will be a cake made by a popular local cake designer <3 I will squeal about it later on. This is so not happening. We'll be too full by the end of the meal xD
-After the tea party ends, when everyone recovers from serious food high, we will go to a purikura store nearby and take loads of photos. Their prices are much cheaper than the bootleg purikura place in Chinatown. They have Japanese and Korean print machines and their purikura is only 6-10 dollars. It's addictive and it's fun so I'd bring much more than 10 bucks if I were you.
Other than the occasion being the Winter International Lolita Day, the theme for this event will be a Princess theme. Decorate yourself in luxurious furs, the richest materials, drape your necks (and ears; and hair!) with pearls, your fingers with rings, and pile your hair with ornaments! For this day, whether you strive to become the next Marie Antoinette, "the Queen of Candyland and all that is Sweet", or the greatest Gothic beauty to date: this day will be your own special day, lovely Princess. Join us. ♥
