General Information

Q:  What is the monthly contest?
A: This for-fun contest takes place on the EGL livejournal community every month.  It is a chance for the community members to showcase their talents, try new things, use their imaginations, and perhaps win a small prize.  The themes vary from month to month, so if you are not interested in this month's theme, watch for next month's post!

Q: Is the contest run by the EGL Moderator Team?
A: No, although we have a moderator on staff who is responsible for making official posts to the EGL Livejournal Community in addition to her duties as a judge, the rest of the judges are non-moderator volunteers unaffiliated with the official running of the EGL Livejournal Community except in the capacity of following the community rules and contest coordination.

Q: How can I suggest a theme for the contest?
A: PM one of the judges with your idea! We recommend
zitronecs,
lavenderspikes, or
hanabishirecca.

Winning

Q: Is this an official contest?
A: Yes, though we are independently run, we are considered to be an officially sanctioned EGL contest.

Q: How will I find out if I win?
A: One of the judges will contact the winner by the given contact email address after the contest has ended.

Q:  What do I get if I win?
A: Most importantly you get bragging rights and have your submission posted to the EGL livejournal community as the winner for the month.  For those of you looking for something more substantial, most contests also include a small prize.  The prizes are donated by community members and can be anything as long as it qualifies as lolita or  "loliable" as determined by one or more of your judges.

Q: Can a judge win a contest?
A: Although the judges are encouraged to participate, judges are ineligible to win contests.

Prizes

Q: I'd like to donate a prize; who should I contact?
A: For prize donation you are advised to read this post. You may post a reply to that post or PM any of our judges, though we recommend
zitronecs,
lavenderspikes, or
hanabishirecca.

Q:  I won a contest, but my prize never showed up.  What should I do?
A: Unless otherwise stated, the EGL Judges community, the EGL livejournal community, and the EGL Moderator Team take no responsibility for the delivery of proffered prize.  Prizes are sent directly from the donator, so we suggest sending him or her a polite reminder.

Entry

Q: Can we use an old photo or something we have already made or written as our entry?
A: No, you may not use an old photo/video/etc. The contests are meant to be an incentive for you to go out and put something new together in conjunction with the theme we provide. For this reason, we request that you create a new entry for this contest. We encourage you to go beyond putting on an outfit that fits the theme by expressing your creativity; however, we do not prohibit re-using a coordinate, etc.

Q: Can I enter someone else's photo, makeup, outfit, etc. into the contest?
A: We ask that only the creative force behind the entry submit his or her work. For example, if you are modeling another member's bonnet for the accessory contest, we ask that the bonnet-maker be the one to enter. If you styled your own outfit for a shoot with a professional photographer; however, we ask that you be the one to enter the contest. Remember: You must hold the rights to any photos you submit.

Q: Can someone else be featured in my entry?
A: Yes, as long as you have their typed permission from their lj-account to go along with your entry.

Q: Can I enter my photo(s)/writing/accessory/etc. into another contest?/Can I use my entry elsewhere?
A: Yes, you retain your rights to anything you submit to our contest, so feel free to do as you please with your creative work.

Judging

Q:  How do you pick the winner?
A: The winner is picked from among the entries submitted for the month according to the judging criteria as stated in the contest description post. Because the theme changes monthly, the criteria must also change. Possible criteria are: adherence to theme, creativity, overall aesthetic, and craftsmanship.  In the event that the judges come to a deadlock and are unable to resolve a winner(s), the final verdict may be determined by one of the following methods: (i) public vote (ii) random selection (iii) cupcake tossing. If you have detailed questions pertaining to the judging of a specific contest, feel free to ask.
