I have some thoughts about the presidential election, but I’m going to save those thoughts for later. Right now I’m thinking about something a little more personal

This was just posted recently on DailyKos: According to DailyKos, California Supreme Court Justice Ronald George, who wrote the majority opinion based on his state's precedent, not the Supreme Court, did not create a suspect class for gay folk, thereby leaving some wiggle room for debate:
There is ample precedent under CA law that alterations of fundamental rights cannot to done with a mere amendment via majority vote of the electorate. This would constitute a "revision" of the CA Constitution would requires 2/3 vote of both Houses of Legislature AND a 2/3 vote by the electorate or alternatively a State Constitutional Convention called by 2/3 vote of both houses.
I'll believe it when it happens. Even if we win in the courts, then the whole process begins again as the fundamentalist will keep going as well. While I agree this will eventually work out for us, sometimes I wonder if we should take a more long-term approach rather than trying to niggle every little thing.
We will have to see, but I'm worried that this could trigger the call again for a Federal Marriage Amendment. Luckily the federal government is held in democratic majorities for the next two years.
Thanks! Chris' family does have its eccentrics, but they are good people. One of them asked Chris if he was going to change his name! We aren't doing that.
I think the honeymoon may be the RSVP cruise to the Mexican Rivera in April. Want to come along?
Regardless of proposition 8, a commitment was made. You're now part of a great family. Nothing can decrease the worth of your marriage, except for your own doubts.
When I read that you got married, I literally gave out a "squeee!" There is great joy to be shared when someone one respects, finds happiness.
Congratulations! May your days always be happy ones.
