My father went in for prostate cancer surgery this past week. his surgery was delayed a couple of times and actually landed on Halloween - a pretty strange day for surgery in my book. How do you tell who's the surgeon

I have half a clue as to how you feel. My grandfather is dealing with prostate cancer at the moment. Second round of it (he's in his early 80's) and so far it's responding to HRT. I'm 40 now (turn 41 in a few weeks) and it's nice to know that I probably have this monster looming in my future as well. My dad hasn't shown (or said) anything about it so I'm not sure if it runs in the family or not but still it's something to keep an eye out for.
Lately I've been seeing all these products that are pink or have pink ribbons all over it and I feel both sympathy and regret. Yes breast cancer is bad and all that but just as many men are dying from prostate cancer as women are dying from breast cancer yet prostate cancer gets maybe 1% of the attention that breast cancer gets.
Yeah, my dad turned 66 three weeks ago, but I'm pretty sure he's been having prostrate troubles for most of the last ten...TEN! I know for a while he didn't have insurance - big deal here in the US, but still!
I'm not totally sure if it runs in the family (thought stubbornness does), but I'll need to ask. Both of my grandfather's died in the 70's from some form of Cancer, but I never found out what kind.
About the only time I see the blue ribbons for prostate cancer is during the one weekend that Major League Baseball makes a statement about it. Perhaps they should make it a season-long campaign.
I know nothing about dad's health team, but he does drive the 50 miles into Houston to get treatment. It's better treatment he would get in my hometown.
I guess we have to wait for the word "remission" to finally be confirmed, but it looks good at this point. thanks for the well wishes!
