Sorry to hear that you didn't get the position. I know what it feels like. Over the years, I've been 1A for many shows, though my skills and talent were greater. It comes down to no discernible reason other than they chose someone else, so please don't be down on yourself.
There are many, many options out there for you. You've got quite a bit of experience now, have that Series 7 under your belt. It would be a shame to waste it. I assume you are working for a fund company. How about taking that product knowledge and those licenses and entering the retail market or working toward your CFP and creating your own independent financial planning business? You have the smarts and the drive.
Regardless, your friends will be along for the journey. Good luck! Create a plan to reach a goal and achieve a dream. (Those are my words and remember, I'll be applying them to myself in the coming weeks.)
Thank you Neil, I'll be watching you very carefully for a bit.
I still don't want to give up on this company yet, but there are some goals i have for myself. They aren't necessarily dollar figuers - if it were that, I wouldn't have bothered with the training position as it was a lateral move. I guess what i really want is to have a more impactful job than I do now. My job feels do...unnecessary.
I'm not so sure about being a finacial planner though. I like having other people do the sales work for me. Financial planners can have it pretty rough trying to find and keep clients.
Goal setting is something I do need to do, but it's the direction finding I really need right now!
One of my dearest friends is a investment advisor of 20 years experience. She is simply amazing and I think would be a good fit for you to explore options. A conversation with her might assist you in defining your goals. If you're going to be in Houston, I could arrange a meeting.
