One If By Land, Two If By Air

As I've mentioned in a previous post, I have some time off coming up in late august. my problem is, I'm not sure what to do with it. Of course my first idea is to consult with Chris on his availability, since he has more time off available, and i thought, more flexibility. This however, is not entirely the case as Chris has an upcoming office ( Read more... )

Sounds like you've kind of made up your mind:) I quibble with a couple of your thoughts. I used to sing on Holland America Cruises and it's my favorite kind of vacation. The price usually includes airfare from your home to the sailing port, your room, all meals (five a day), entertainment, etc ... You can be as busy as you want to be or as lazy as you wish. There are specialty cruises centered around themes ... so, if you wanted to learn something specific, that is possible. I agree with you that the Alaska cruises are the most appealing ... but mostly, because I like cooler weather:)

As to your passport ... renew it now and you should have it back in time for any vacation you might want to take in August without any extra expediting fees ... Also - if you fly Southwest into BWI and choose other cities on Southwest's schedule such as Providence,, you only have to book one-ways ... no need for a travel agent. You'll save enough on airfare to afford rental cars .... Just sayin' :) HUGS!

Well, I'll admit that it's a preconsived notion about cruise lines, but hey, didn't the Love Boat teach us anything? Those people just ran around the ship all day. :-)

Southwest is problematic out of Dallas due to the restrictions on Love Field, they can't fly from Love to airports that are more than one state away from Texas (excluding Missouri), and this won't change for another eight years, so really, they aren't the best choice here.

I understand your dilemma. I looked forward to having a partner to have someone to do things with. But if they don't want to, or turn out to want to do different things, well, that's a big disappointment.

It's not so much that Chris might not want to go, but more the fact that the scheduling might not work out, and he can't really plan on anything right now. When it comes to vacations, I hate to be last minute, and like to have preparations made early - especially with airfare involved.

As for different things, it happens, you'e two different people, and everyone doesn't work in the same way. You learn to deal withit, compromise, or give up. Right now, one vacation doesn't chenge anything here.

the Alaska cruise would suit both of your needs.

(no, not the execrable 1980 film with Al Pacino ;-)

Some years ago (ten, to be exact) I went on a Caribbean cruise with five other guys recruited via the local gay BBS (run by mc4bbs). Ended up mostly hanging out with the token straight man (TSM) of the six, because we both liked to swim and snorkel. My cabinmate and TSM's cabinmate spent the trip gambling, while the trip's organizer and his cabinmate probably spent more time in their cabin than elsewhere ( ... )

I know, but my sense of wanderlust

I love that word, wanderlust. I just used it the other day in a conversation with a friend as I was describing my overall restlessness and the need to do some personal traveling.
