Mir/San Fic Recs, 3rd Quarter '08

Well, here it is. My Mir/San rec list for this quarter.  It's not a spectacularly big list, but with this pairing it never is. Now I just have to decide what I want to nominate...

Thanks for the suggestion... but I have to admit to being a bit of a 'canoneer'. I like canon stories. I had a heck of a time trying to read the first Purity, and I couldn't even make it all the way through that. Purity 8 is just... well I couldn't in good conscience recommend something from a series I didn't like.

In addition, Purity 8 was recently disqualified at the iyfg (the group I made this list for) for no longer really being InuYasha fanfiction:

"After much discussion concerning this title and newer titles in the "Purity" series, it was decided that, while the works are set in an Inuyasha based universe, the characters and situations that drive the plot are now too far removed to be considered Inuyasha Fanfiction."

I think the opinion of IYFG is just ridiculous.
as regards Purity. This is clearly as close to Inuyasha as any other AU. Sesshoumaru, Kagura, Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippou all play parts in Purity 8 because they are hunting Inuyasha's
granddaughter. Inuyasha and Kagome are persons who detect Miroku's aura in Kurt Drevin because they recognize it from the feudal era. Don't even get me started on the large number of IY/YYH who seem to have latched onto the idea that if they name the love interest of the Spirit Detectives "Kagome" they have a crossover fic which can be nominated in any category. They have isolated Sueric, one of the better authors of Inuyasha fan fiction at the same time that the fandom is declining. There are many others who feel isolated from the IYFG including Inugrrrl who feels targeted by persons in the IYFG who do not like her brand of AU , jenerik brand who will not allow her yaoi/yuri to be nominated and priestess skye who is still not a member of IYFG because of complaints she has with them.

That's fine. You're entitled to your opinion. So am I.

I, personally, like canon fics (preferably canon fics that focus mainly or, especially, solely on Miroku and/or Sango). I don't read most AU stories. I've never made it through an IY/YYH crossover, or any crossover, for that matter. I doubt I ever will. I'm not generally interested in fics that deviate extensively from the canon, because it's the canon I'm interested in. How to put it? I don't particularly care for AU (there are a few exceptions, but to me AR is infinitely preferable if you must change the canon). I really don't like reincarnation fic. I want to read about Miroku and Sango, not "Kurt Drevin" and "Samantha", or whatever other original characters an author comes up with and slaps a "Miroku and Sango reincarnations" label onto. I don't care if you think Sueric is the best IY author ever. I disagree. I'm not going to recommend one of her fics just because someone feels affronted that I didn't. Why? Because why on earth would I recommend a fic I didn't like
