I was looking at tintypes on ebay. This looks very much like all of them, except they are all small = about 1/4 the size of this photo. It's too bad that the apps don't randomize the defects and distortions. Maybe a future generation of apps will do that. It maybe would be fun to learn the tintype process.

I think the app does randomize to a certain extent - quite a few variations before you see the exact same effect again.

It would be fun to do a real tin type, someday... But in the meantime I'm glad these apps make it so easy!

Where do you get all the little faces you use in your jewelry? (Been wondering this a long time.

I made them from a mold and then glazed them in all different colors. I was obsessed with it for a while and made over a hundred at that time.

I like the star at the top. I've not seen you use a star before.

your self photo: mom's mouth, dad's nose, and eyes seem a combination of both. I do like this tin type style.

Making the bezels for the star stones is very fussy work and being a little lazy I don't use them that often. I have them in about 6 different colors. This design really seemed to call for one though.

The tin type app can recognize faces and the parts of faces so it makes eyes especially sharp.

That would be cool to make Viking knit. Have fun!

I love that little star above, too.

And another really good self portrait!

Viking knit has a really good feel to it - snakey.

Thanks.

This tin type app is specially made for portraits. It singles out the eyes and facial features for sharpness. It's neat. Thanks.

did you get that new tintype app? i wanted it! (for house portraits, right?) but you can only use it with iOS 8. and i'm afraid to put that on my 4S - 7 messed it up enough. waaaah. i'm pretty sure it is the same as a lens/film combo that i already have for hipstamatic, but i think there is more color to it? anyway - GREAT portrait!! very mysterious ...

The main reason I wanted to get the new tin type app was that it will work on pictures that you have already taken with the regular camera. The regular hipstamatic won't let you do that (which is annoying). Other than that it's pretty much like the hipsta version (though it will do rectangular photos in addition to square too).
