Before you pay, see if you can get a review or two of the repair shop. I've had things repaired expensively by Canon and before long they develop the same problem that was supposedly just fixed. Maybe for $360 you could get a good used replacement instead of gambling on a fix-up. Sometimes they send back a fixed one, but not yours. This happened to Djaza with her Bose radio. They sent back a newer model that she thought was not as good. Everything out there is a scam now days.

It is one of the few authorized nikon repair centers in the US and in general has very good reviews, though it can be pricey some folks think. I still am thinking the repair will be less than getting another one used. Hope I'm right. I like the lens a lot.

In that picture of Rossy, it looks like a normal picture, not infrared.

I wonder how long it will take to get lens fixed. Since you weren't planning on bringing it down, perhaps it will be waiting there for you when you get home, all fixed and ready to go.

I have mostly all daylight bulbs in the studio. Maybe that is why is looks realistic - there are lots of infrared rays in that kind of light perhaps. Though the color is "off" - the green beads on the table look very blue and the black chair looks blue. It seems to not change skin tones too much but it makes skin look very smooth. IR rays will go into a person's skin a millimeter before they reflect back out again. Ordinary light rays reflect off the surface. I have some weird close ups of faces because of that, though you can't see it in this photo of Rossy.

They say the turn around for repairs are very fast. I may have the lens back in only a couple weeks. I hope so. I'd like to have it resolved before I go even if I don't take the lens on vacation.

Nice one of Oo-tapo.

Frozen hair - erk!

I wonder if the lens would ever be the same again, even after repair?

Yes, that photo of Rossy does look almost natural. Very clever boy to solve the ring puzzle!

I'm hoping it will be as good. There is a 6 month warranty on it after repair so I will have 6 months to test it.

Roswell is very smart - always asking questions. And challenging us!
