They sure do have a different kind of society, though I can see some similarities. (Some) humans will pick out someone to be a scapegoat too. I just hate having to see her without feathers to cover her bare skin. Hoping that before winter she'll grow some...
I know. I wish I could protect her. In the past I have removed the chicken that was being picked on and put them in a separate space but then they are constantly wanting desperately to get back to the rest of the flock. You'd think they'd enjoy being in a safe place but it doesn't work that way.
Animals can be so weird, at least to our eyes. Fancy is the same. She doesn’t really like other horses, and is the low mare in the field, but hates being separated from them. I guess the herd instinct that keeps them alive as a group is stronger than the individual concerns.
It's always interesting to try and figure out what's going on in their little brains. They still have a lot of their original wild traits but they've been distorted by domestication too.
