I used to think I was an artist.
I used to think I was a writer.
I used to think I was a poet.
Now I call myself a person who makes art,
a person who writes.
I don't even try to write poetry anymore.
I'm not a hiker.
I'm a person who hikes.
I'm not a reader.
I'm a person who reads.
Even when it was my job I knew I never was a jeweler

I like being a person who does things. That description gives more space for variety and allows you to step away from stereotypes. In my advocacy work, I always talk about people who ride a bike, rather than cyclists. Cyclist evokes an image of bike bros in Lycra and fancy gear, who often ignore the rules or put their bikes on an SUV to bike on trails outside the city. I want people to think about the people who use their bikes to buy groceries, take their kids to school, or get to work. I want them to notice people who use a bike or trike as a mobility aid, the kids, and the seniors.
You are a person who uses various art forms to express yourself in beautiful ways. I think that’s much more interesting because you are multidimensional. When Joni Mitchell gave up making music in favour of painting, I had a hard time with the idea. She was doing something she wasn’t “supposed” to do. I love that you also refuse to be bound by what you are “supposed” to do.

Fabulous photo.
You being you is far more interesting to me than you being writer/artist/jeweler/whatevs. 😀

my thought is no no no!
if you write you are a writer!
you write because you love words and want to say something
what every form your creativity takes it is what you are
you do it because you have to!
because something in you wants it
some people get known
their work gets know
others who may even get "known" are known only when all their work is discovered in the attic years later
you are who you are and do what you do because that is who you are
the judgement of others has no meaning for who you are
we have to stop judging ourselves but standards composed by others
by the commercial media
do what you do and rejoice in it
the old saying
"Be yourself - Everyone else is taken"
ok off my "soapbox" : )

Thank you for saying this. I think I also needed to hear this today.

I think you are more than talented enough to deserve the title of artist.
You have the artistic gifts and instincts but more importantly you have the drive--the hunger--to create art and that's what separates the people who do art as a hobby from the people who are true artists.
