Little Comfort came out from under the shed - with a bit of prodding with a broom - and she seems fine - just missing some feathers. Everyone is locked up tight in the coop now and that's where they will stay till spring. I'm sick of that hawk thinking our yard is his personal larder.

chickens, little comfort the chicken

I like caring for the chickens (being their mother) and at the same time I like that they are free and wild to a certain extent. But if I want them to keep living I have to do something and take charge I guess...

Oh, I'm so glad she escaped, bless her!

Yes, it seems sensible to keep them in for a while, until the hawk stops coming back.

Yes, and with winter here everything they could be eating (bugs, plants) is gone. There is no real reason for them to be out in the yard being targets at this point. I should have done this sooner I guess, but I know they like their freedom.

Me too. Today I see a few tiny scratches on her face from the hawk but that's all. She's a lucky girl.

I got the idea originally perhaps from susandennis. I'm glad I got them. We've got a lot of enjoyment from listening to them. I have one in both coops and I can hear other sounds coming in from the yard too.
