The question:
11 If money were no object, but you could only choose one, would you rather travel somewhere via a first-class travel method or stay somewhere in a first-class accommodation? This could go both ways. If I traveled on a cruise ship in first class then that would be great - the voyage would be the whole thing. If I traveled cheap and ( Read more... )

I have never fancied the idea of a cruise ship. They are massive and full of people and you have limited space, like being locked in a gigantic hotel ! There was a series of clickbait photos I saw that confirmed my fears...
I think that I would choose the accommodation, occasionally I have stayed in somewhere that was expensive and really enjoyed it. Travel is travel, and while cheap flights that are 12 hours or more in a tiny seat are pretty grim I generally forget about it once I arrive.
I am amazed that you still live in the same area as where you grew up. Have you lived anywhere else meantime ?

I'd prefer living somewhere for a longer period - get to know a place. And it wouldn't need to be first class accommodations either. I think I would prefer to live in a regular neighborhood. But I could enjoy some good food on a cruise - for sure.

I have lived for short periods in the Russian River area in California, and in Bradenton Florida but mainly I have lived locally. Because my brother was a quadriplegic I wanted to stay close by and help out. In 1999 we moved into the house next door to my childhood home (where my brother and parents still lived). Now they are all gone and here I am!

Last year we took a cruise ship trip around Iceland. There were many stops. If I recall correctly couple of meals were ashore. It was small ship with about 150 passengers - nice room and excellent food (it was a French ship). The tour was a Harvard and other universities Alumni cruise. At meals most of the tables says 4 - 6 people so you got to eat with various other people for a bit of socializing We travel a lot and this was a neat way to do it - it's like being in a hotel that goes to the places you want to see. Did it once before many years ago on the Hurtigruten up the coast of Norway. I want to try some river cruises. Read Scholars or Viking Tours run lots of them - gain on small boats with just 1-2 hundred people.

That's the part of a cruise I would like. Getting to see interesting places as you go. I've read the postings of a couple LJ friends (you included) who have traveled the world this way and it looks great.

I’m impressed that you captured the web and spider so well with your phone. I have never managed to do that.

Yeah, it's like the phone camera always wants to focus behind the close-up thing you want to photograph.
