I got up very early this morning - 4:30 am - because I wanted to get some stuff done before I leave to get the oil changed in the car. The appointment for that is 8 am. I figure after I get done with the oil change I will walk in the Franklin Cemetery before OA. I will have some time to kill before that starts at 9:30. I invited Jules and "the boys ( Read more... )

"This kind of picture will not do." But so many elements of it work together! The reds of the blouse, the camera, and the purse. All the blues and purples in the background and the scattering of "incidental" objects.

And something else, a visual concept, which I don't know quite how to describe that's happening between the much busier pattern of your shirt and the much simpler pattern created by the single red "sun" against the blue-grey-purple of the purse.

The colors in the background created by the shirt look similar but the scale of the patterns in the background and the foreground object are so different that the intended focal point, the purse stands out.

Sooo badly explained--by me--but really cool in its visual effect. Which is why you're the artist. Thanks for sharing...

Thanks for your input about the background (my shirt). You've given me some ideas about how to present photos of the purses. I think I need to get a piece of material that is "busy" the way that shirt is busy and in mainly warm colors. Most all the purses will have brown in them somewhere (I imagine) and they might look good with a warm background.

I agree without about the vegan thing. I have friends who are vegetarians and vegans because of the environmental impact, but then buy all sorts of pre-packaged, highly processed stuff (not even real food in my definition) that is imported from far away. And they wear “vegan leather” aka plastic made from hydrocarbons. Vegetarian living can have a lower impact on the planet if it is done right, but to me that includes eating locally and sustainably grown foods and using products that have less impact on the environment. In my case, it means I eat some meat (from local farmers who have free-range animals), as a trade-off for almonds or similar nuts that are sucking dry the big aquifers in the USA.

There are definitely classes of animals that are mistreated just so people can make the most money from them. That is the real shame. Crowded conditions and living in their own filth, not having any freedom their whole life, mothers separated from their babies. I don't think going totally vegan is the answer - most people won't do that anyway - but having animals treated with more compassion while they are alive is something that might be doable.

Love the photo of your bag. Now I know just how big it is! I think it matches your clothes, too :) And you are a good model. But, if Chloe wants to pose for the camera...

I told them that I think raising sheep for wool is one of the mildest forms of animal husbandry. The sheep have a pretty happy life outdoors and freely grazing.

Also... I'm pretty sure that sheep have to be sheared for their own health and safety. In the UK there are frequently stories in the news about sheep who wander off from the flock and then are found months later in a bad way, unable to move or eat because they're bound up by their own tangled wool.

True! Sheep and the shepards need each other.
