Candy is sick with the flu, or something like the flu so we didn't go out hiking today. I stayed around the house most of the day till afternoon when Dave asked me if I wanted to go with him out to Gas City. Gas City is where he and his friends have a hunting shanty. He had just gotten a photo of his brother Bruce enlarged (Bruce died 2 years ago) ( Read more... )

Lovely images. I know nothing of hunting shacks. Do they sit up there and hunt from the building? It looks comfortable.

Thanks. Some of the older, more frail guys do hunt from up there but Dave and the more hardy ones stay out and only come up to the shanty at the end of the day to get warm and share stories of their day. Then during the rest of the year the guys get together there for “meetings”. Not sure what that entails exactly. Beer?

That was a nice trip out to the hunting shack. I like it!

Funny how it is called a city and how it looks now. Even though it was a bustling town, it is strange there is so little left of it now.

Nice photos of you two.

And nice pendant, too!

This was an area of boom towns back in the mid 1800s. Full of men busy in the woods, cutting down all the trees, smelting iron, drilling oil and gas wells. Now it’s just woods again. Sometimes you see old machinery here and there.

Thanks!

And thanks.

Sounds like No 2 daughter's town, although it is about the same size as it was in the 1880s gold rush. At least my daughter's town survived. I guess if a lot of things were made of wood they wouldn't survive. But the metal would (if it wasn't carried off to somewhere else.
