Got up earlier than usual so I could walk with Jan and Berdella before it got hot. Berdella and I met Jan at 7 at one of the parking places for the Wilhelm trail. It was still muggy even that early.

I have never heard of that crochet technique, though it reminds me a lot of hats made by the Inuit of Pangnirtung. Your blanket is beautiful and I can see why you treasure it.

I think it was used by native peoples frequently. It is almost like coiling baskets in a way - used in circular designs a lot, hats.

That's a beautiful and unique blanket. It doesn't look like crochet at all. Is it done in strips? I look forward to seeing the one you make.

I agree with you, mallory's is a good writer.

It is all worked on the right side so you have to start each row freshly, unless you are working in the round. I think I will try something small first, like a bag. It might be labor intensive.

Good job capturing those leafy shadows so sharply through that foggy lens. Not an easy thing to do.

I remember several times you telling me about Lois Ruth and ALS and the day she died. I think I even remember you telling me about the blanket she gave you. Another of your friends (or maybe Dave's) had ALS, too. It is such a horrible and hideous disease. I can see why that blanket would be very special to you.

The original picture just had one side foggy so I made all sides the same.

Lois Ruth was married to Dick, a good friend of Dave's from way back. I didn't know her well but always thought I could count on her. She could be very brusk but she was a good person.

When I was in Thailand and Laos, my lens would fog up quite a bit when I walked out of a building, and I would then try to clear it off. It never occurred to me to use that fogging to my advantage. Until now!

Yeah! Sometimes it's a neat special effect. Not always though. ;-)
