Jan and I had talked about walking today but canceled. Not a nice day - cold and the roads are bad. I went back to bed after I let the chickens out and slept for about an hour. The time change has me going to bed too late and not getting enough sleep.

Candy and I did hike to Plum Dungeon on Monday. Here's a few infrared photos:

So dumb question: is there a reason they are avoiding a pacemaker at this time? They are now small, the surgery is relatively minimal...

I don't know. No one has mentioned a pacemaker to me so far. Though ablation is something I have heard about being done.

My understanding of it is that the pacemaker maintains whatever minimal heart rate is programmed into it. Meaning that it prevents the heart from dropping below that pace. It does not set or maintain an upper limit to the beats per minute. That, I believe, is accomplished with certain medications and the pacemaker is used in conjunction with them to prevent the heart rate from dropping too low ( ... )

I wasn't diagnosed with A-Fib until I went into heart failure, even though it had started months before. Mine was persistent and I just got used to it. It didn't go away until i was put on a cocktail of various drugs AND had an ablation.

If you haven't done so already, cut back - and I mean way back - on your sodium intake.

Just don't stop taking the blood thinner.

I feel lucky that mine is intermittent. How long ago did this all happen to you?

October 2014

It was a wake up call, to be sure. And just one more reason I needed to get away from my old life. My health just continued to deteriorate. I'm hoping that a few months of fresh air, sunshine and sleeping at night when I'm supposed to will make an improvement.

Glad your hiking weather is coming back!

Your A-fib sounds like a pain.

We kept hiking in the winter - snow and cold usually doesn't stop us from that. But i am looking forward to biking weather! Needs to be warm and dry for that. I'm getting tired of winter dragging on here.

Maybe i will just get used to it and learn to cope with it. I guess that is what i am doing now - learning to live with it.

Oh, my mistake! I did see your posts. I know that feeling of wanting winter to be over.

One more thing to learn to live with!

I love reading about your snow hikes! I had the same experience you had yesterday -- thinking, Jeeze... I gotta get out there and move my body in the real world! -- but being deterred by the bone-chilling cold! :-)

Poor little Dot!

I was wondering about the ablation and/or pacemaker, too. Seems like your a-fib has been going on long enough. There is some evidence to suggest, by the way, that a-fib may be one of the aftereffects of radiation treatments:

I might have been predisposed to have a-fib - my mother had it. But i thought that too - it came right after i had radiation to my left breast. Damn. I guess i am hoping it might improve as i heal more.

Getting tired of this cold winter dragging on. March is my least favorite month.

I did get her to the vet this time! Though the vet found dental problems. Poor Skye. I am taking her tomorrow to get a tooth pulled.
