First of all, I love that "your spot" was a cemetery. It made me smile when you said, "we went back to our spot in the cemetery."
Your pictures (and descriptive words) are fantastic! I like how you left your camera on one manual setting to gauge the darkness. My favorite one has to be "nearly there - looking through clouds!"
Love the Elk so much! You really got wonderful pictures and they brought back so many good memories of our time there! I wonder if the big male is the same one who was there two years ago. I remember the ranger telling us that the male we were looking at had charged him before. They put special tags on some of them he said, determining if they might become dangerous and charge you.
I hadn't planned ahead of time to do that with the camera but I realized as it was getting darker that the photos I was taking weren't showing things any darker. Cause your eyes keep adjusting to it you can't sense how dark it really is getting.
I imagine you could have got way better better photos of the elk - especially with your long lens. It was neat to see them in the water. It might have been the same big bull as two years ago - they said he has been the head of the herd for a while.
