Oh wow, I suppose it is partially my age and the fact that I have been sedentary for so many years but I think at The Very Most I might be able to walk 10 miles a day. And camping out night after night would be hard. I haven't given up the the dream of hiking long stretches myself and I certainly admire those who do. I would need to practice hiking with a big pack on first.
Don't let age or fitness hold you back (too much). My friend is in her 40s, I think, but might be around 50. She was fairly fit and enjoyed walking before she started, but lost quite a few inches (and some weight) during her walk. She is gregarious and brave, but even she found some camping nights quite lonely (and some hostels a little crazy) and relished the opportunities for hot showers and soft mattresses.
I really didn't mind the rain much - though I suppose I would feel differently if it had been colder or if we had to camp out at the end of the day, instead of getting to come back to the cottage for a nice hot shower and change of clothes. :-)

That first shot is stunning.
There are some mountain pics up on mine from our recent trip.

As for hiking in the rain, well ... it's fun for a couple minutes. :)
