Maybe because it is such a large surface is why it is taking longer to cure. Be patient, you don't want to rush if it's not ready. I understand it needs to be covered for protection, but that may be why it is taking longer, too, not as much air circulation. Just guesses, I've never done anything like this before with epoxy.
I don't think lack of air circulation slows it from curing cause it is a chemical reaction. The directions say to cover it. I think I just need to be more patient. It is curing, but slowly. I'm thinking by morning it will be ready. I took a peek and it does look really nice under the clear layer. It might look even better under a thicker layer tomorrow.
72 hours for a total cure but between 4 and 6 hours until you can pour a second layer. It was still a little tacky though just now. I think it will be better in the morning.
Aw. Sorry Qat is gone. Sounds like he got a lot of love while he was with you. Your writing about his last days is so true and heartfelt. Seems like I have seen the end days of so many pets myself and you wrote about the experience so well.
Skye is asking why she can't jump up on that nice new table?
And I agree with you. The plastic cover may be delaying the hardening process. But what can you do? You don't want dust and cat hair in it. The Chinese sued to take the things they wanted to lacquer out to sea because the air was clean out there.
Now I'm pretty sure the cover had nothing to do with slowing things since it is a chemical reaction that is taking place - but the temperature of the room does make a difference. But the resin I was using before was over 2 years old - that might have made a difference. Today I bought brand new stuff and it might go faster - we'll see.

Yes, more patience....
How long does it say it takes to cure?
I bet it does look better under a second layer.
