I agree that Neal doesn't know Peter as well as he thought he did. Peter wouldn't shoot anyone who didn't derserve to be shot, including Fowler. However, I think Peter believes in truth and justice with mercy, but some people have to take it straight up, and at point blank range. It's not like Fowler was clean.

Thank you for an introspective Neal.

I agree actually that Peter's all about those things and that Neal would think so as well. I just think in a world after Kate, being uncertain about Peter would shake him, even with Fowler in mind.

Thank you so much for reading.

An interesting look inside of Neal's head. His slight doubt in his knowledge of Peter could put an interesting flavor into their relationship.

I thought so, too. Thanks for letting me know what you think.

You've make my hands shake - this is absolutely terrific.

I too would love to know what was going on inside of Peter's head at that very moment...he was trying to protect Diana (and I have no doubt that Fowler would have shot her and walked away) and he was trying to protect Neal.

This is the essence of what it means to be Peter Burke - to protect his own, without regards for the the consequences to himself.

That is still what Neal doesn't quite understand - I think he wonders why Peter sees him as being so worthy of such devotion.

Again, thank you.

I think you're right. Neal totally doesn't understand why someone, anyone, would go to such lengths for him; especially, the guy that went all out attempting to catch him when he was a fugitive. I doubt he really realizes yet that things have changed and that he and Peter have shifted from being just coworkers to steadfast partners in the fight. Peter takes that seriously, clearly more seriously than he's allowed Neal to realize. I love their relationship, it's got so many layers to explore.

Thank you so much for reading. I'm so happy you liked this.

That is a very nice icon you got there, my friend.

You're very welcome!

I've added you as a friend, hope you don't mind.

There's a secret to that picture...btw. I discovered it when making the icon.

Ooh, what's the secret?

And, nah, I don't mind at all. The more friends, the merrier.

Love this take on things - we've seen how Neal shuns physical violence and guns, and this makes sense for him to have mixed feelings about it, since Peter has been pretty gentle with him - also Neal and Peter are good enough at their jobs that Neal hasn't seen what happens when Peter has to choose between shooting and letting someone get hurt. I think this is fascinating and I hope you're considering writing more of this?

I'm really happy you got what I was going for here because it wasn't until after I'd posted that I realized I might have been sending the wrong message about Neal's feelings here. Originally, I had intended to write a longer fic that sort of illustrated Neal's realization that White Collar can be just as dangerous as any other department when faced with a threat. It was especially going to emphasize that it wasn't just Peter; every field agent is trained in knowing how and when to shoot, including Diana, Jones, and Cruz.

Sorry, thinking aloud, er...in text. So, I've definitely thought about it. I guess I'll just have to see what canon hands me to work with next week.

Thank you for reading and letting me know what you thought. I always appreciate that.

Loved the idea of Neal needing a distraction from Kate's death, and settling on Peter as an alternative to her - both of them people he cares about and yet also both of them people he might not know quite as well as he thought he did.

I think that's gonna be a big deal for Neal coming up. He has to know who he can trust, so he'll just keep digging till he feels he's at the heart of everyone's motives. Peter is top of the list after Kate.

Oh, and thank you for reading. I really appreciate it.
