So I was catching up on my fwiends page tonight when I saw this post of extemporanea's, which includes the following suggestion:

The nearest book-like object was a PhD thesis I am borrowing for structural inspiration meaning that my sex life will be very dry and involve researching complex social systems. Taking the nearest actual book tells me that "Within moments the target would be lost." All in all it doesn't look very promising. I think I would rather take my chance with the elephants.

I think you could reasonably interpret your sentence as an exhortation to pounce immediately and secure the target. The key word being "would".

I narrowly avoided having to check a book of Sudoku. I am not sure those even have sentences.

If we're catching up, there's likely to be drinks and food with Carlo and other Saffers on Saturday 18th February. Hope to see you some time, maybe then.

Ooh, Saturday 18th February is a day (a) when I'm free and (b) which isn't so far into the future as to render a casual drinks plan disproportionate. It would be interesting to see Carlo too. Do I know any of the other Saffranites?

I've saved the date - please send details when they emerge?
