Out In The Ether

(Note before I actually begin: I love this picture I found! I imagine this little girl is something like my inner child. :P)

So, today, I brought a few friends from AXO and AEPi to our KGB meetings. I convinced Hahna (a sister of mine, a girl I live with in my SIH program at Morewood, my suitemate from last year, and a good friend of mine) to come ( Read more... )

Heh... I can sympathize with the "different hats" thing. I don't think I have your issue to quite the same extent, but, as one example, it was weird when one of my group/office-mates showed up to ballroom dancing a couple weeks ago - those are two different parts of my life, and the collision is kind of strange.

But this also ties in a bit with some things that have been bouncing around in my head since winter break, and were just triggered again by watching the last Dollhouse episode again...

I think I'm going to have to collect thoughts and write up a post about it. But some other time, since I'm getting up in just over seven hours to go practice playing the chimes, another completely different sphere I hope to add to my life.

You're not a normal--in the original sense, it is fairly pejorative for people who do not understand doing silly things because they are fun, or doing fun things because they are silly, or doing extreme things for the love and joy of it. It turns out most people aren't actually normals, but a lot of people act that way on the surface.

I like your definition Carolyn, it's better worded then the one I was using.

The more I've made friends with diverse people, the more I've come to realize that everyone is complicated. Sometimes you'll find people with just one set of similar interests, but that doesn't really happen all that often. Most of us are care about a some vastly different things, it's what makes us interesting. It's also what allows things to happen. An environmentalist can complain about the design choices made by an engineer that harm the environment; but it takes an environmentalist who is an engineer to design it better the next time around.

Enjoy being part of your different groups. I suspect you need all the people in your life to fulfill you. The Co-op and KGB collide seldom, but I definitely need both sets of people in my life to keep me sane.

Re: cog psych, I feel the same way. I find the subject interesting, but the class is dull... And I'm not sure how to get the grades on the exams and hws that I want to get. My quizzes have been okay, since they're multiple choice, but the open-ended questions are graded poorly, IMO. If I can quote Kempy, "It's psychology! There is more than one right answer!"
