So the school + teller thing: I don't think it's necessarily a step backwards, since you'd be trying to advance yourself by going to school. But if you don't want to do education, then maybe it'd be a waste to spend money to get the degree and work at a job that you don't like in order to get another job you don't want to do.
Just my opinion though.
Definitely keep trying at the music thing! We're all looking forward to the day when we can say, hey, we knew her back when she was complaining about being a teller :P
