-sigh-

Does anyone have any hints as to how to train a cat to stop trying to cover up their food?

Abby is compulsive about it. Every time she eats, she scrapes at the floor for a minute or so, and sometimes she will go back and forth between the bowls - we have two - trying to cover them. And she does this every time she eats during the day, and ( Read more... )

Oh. That's sad and cute. We have an OCD kitty who washes frantically when we yell at him. He probably would try to hide his food if he had to share it. He does hide his toys, but mostly because he loves getting to go around the apartment and "finding" them especially if he's made them hard to reach.

I have no idea how to fix the problem--unless maybe you can feed her from a bowl that is hers alone? Not sure how you would work that logistically.

Catfood is smelly. They like to bury smelly things. She'll probably not grow out of it.

My friend had a cat that did that with her food. We called it "burying it and saving it for later." lol

My cat does this, too, and I have absolutely no advice for you. The only thing that can work is to pay her attention, because sometimes she truly seems to do it to get some. She knows that if she does it long enough I'll eventually get there to make sure it's really her food she's trying to cover and not anything worse and then she can start nagging me about going out or whatever.

My cat does the same thing and I have no idea how to fix it. My mom's cat will knead the top of the couch before sitting but she'll do it for like 5 minutes at a time and it drives my mom absolutely nuts. Cats are such funny creatures.
