Background: S is reading a supposedly nonfiction book that has its history hopelessly muddled. It claims that Herodotus expressed an opinion on Cicero and that Plutarch coined the term "Dark Ages" to refer to the Early Medieval period, among other things. It's a book about memory and technologies for using/improving memory, I think by a psychologist. He says the author's research is on the more modern side of the book, so presumably it will get better (if he sticks it out, which I'm not sure he's going to do).

I've heard of those books but not looked them up - I should when I'm looking for something fun.
