I think in a "little bit" should be a short period of time, 30 minutes or less. That said, however, I can't even tell you how many times my sister has called me, especially at work, when I'm right in the middle of something, and I promise to call her right back, and then promptly forget all about it. :)

My best friend and I have been playing phone tag for about 2 weeks now and I finally got her on the phone and she told me she was about to eat something and would call me back in a "little bit." How long does it take to eat? I was thinking that she'd call me back in 15 or 30 minutes, but an hour and a half later, there was still no call ( ... )

30 minutes is about what I think of as "a little bit" also. Judging from other people's answers though, "a little bit" means a bunch of different things to different people. Not that my friend should have said, "I'll call you back in exactly 42 minutes" or something, but I feel like she implied that it would be sooner rather than later. Over an hour and a half feels like later to me though...Maybe I'm just being sensitive?

I could kind of go along with the "maybe they forgot" theory, except that my best friend and I have been playing phone tag for about 2 weeks (at one point we used to talk almost every day or every other day) so you'd think it would be on her mind to get back to me. I finally talked to her the next day. I was frustrated when I posed my poll question- maybe I was just being too sensitive? It's been known to happen. :-)

I'm going to go with 'anytime the same day / night' because that's my own yardstick too.

When did you eventually get the call? ;-)

After waiting an hour and a half, I got annoyed (and was getting very sleepy) so I turned off my phone and feel asleep. I woke up about 2 hours later and there was a voice mail message from my best friend. My phone didn't say when she called though- so she could have called 5 seconds after I turned off my phone or it could have been 3 hours or so after saying "a little bit."

I'm being (extra) sensitive about it because we've been playing phone tag for about 2 weeks now and when I finally got her on the phone, I thought it would be a priority for her to call me back ASAP. Maybe my definition of "as soon as possible" is different than hers though...I finally did get to talk to her then next day.
