I, too, was really surprised when I found out that Helen Raynor wrote Daleks in Manhatten, and I agree that that arc was the weakest in S3 of Doctor Who. I loved To the Last Man though. I agree with what you say regarding the reason for waking Tommy up-- it should have been precipitated by the time shift beginning to happen, and the 24 hours that he had awake should have been waiting for it to come into full effect in order to enable the switch. You make some very excellent points about gender roles and sexuality and how none of that matters on Torchwood. You're right - it's a more idealised world. Thanks for pointing that out.
