Eerie, Indiana fanfiction: Sculpture

Jun 22, 2016 19:32

Written for Day 23 of the 31_days June challenge. The prompt was "the enemy sketched out in promise and pen"

“This is far so outside my bailiwick, it’s not even funny,” said Sara Sue. Harley made a noise that managed to be at once sympathetic to her situation, and thoroughly non-committal as to her future course of action.

All along Deadwood Park’s newly-erected sculpture trail, cast-iron homunculi stirred and flexed and tore free of their pedestals. Sightless eyes in unmoving faces turned towards downtown Eerie where the Unkind Ones had already gathered, forming a thin protective line in leather and steel. The steeds of Eerie’s most notorious biker gang roared horse-power defiance, but the men who straddled them stood silent.

Sara Sue cast another despairing look at the shambling statuary, then turned to Billy Millions with an imploring expression.

“I’ve only just started working in clay,” she said. “I’m not even allowed to use the kiln unsupervised. You must know someone better qualified.”

Billy Millions shrugged his huge shoulders, his tight leather vest creaking at the seams as he did so. His gaze never left his men, shielding Front Street with their bikes and their bodies, braced for the coming onslaught.

“Never had much contact with the local art scene,” he said. “I only heard about this because the boys and I did some fundraising for the Beautify Eerie campaign last summer. I thought it was for hanging baskets and flower beds on the sidewalks and the like. If we’d known it would go towards malevolent municipal modelling, we mightn’t have bothered.”

Sara Sue blew out a deep breath, her heavy fringe momentarily flicking up and away from her face with the force of displaced air.

“Okay,” she said. “Okay. Who’s got my sketchbook?”
