Eerie, Indiana fanfiction: Multiplicity
Written for Day 14 of 31_days July challenge. The prompt was "I, a single human being"
Prequel to Hound
Marshall Teller surveyed the massed army before him, and with his own face and eyes (except for that one alternate Marshall who came from a universe where everything was pirates and wore an eyepatch embroidered with the Eerie Dairy logo) the milkmen stared back. They stretched away into the distance, an endless sea of white and blue, and the ticking and bleeping of their multiple watches drowned out the restless whispering and the rustle of their uniforms as they fidgeted on the spot and waited for him to speak.
“Um,” said Marshall Teller, who was fourteen years old and struggling to adjust to the news that, across the multiverse, milkmen and garbage collectors alike referred to him in hushed tones as Mars Prime.
He reached out to adjust the microphone, which dropped several more inches than he’d intended and gave a staticky whine of feedback. The milkmen murmured amongst themselves. At the front of the crowd, Mister Radford and Simon gave him an encouraging thumbs-up. Dash rolled his eyes, and Syndi glared at her little brother and tapped her blood-stained Miss Tornado Day pumps impatiently.
“Hi,” said Marshall Teller, Saviour of Multiple Worlds, Apparently, and the milkmen roared their approval.
